I know your main trading partners are in Asia. Do you see much in the way of mainland vehicles that aren’t European or Japanese brands well established in the first world?

Want to say no, but now I’m questioning that.

Some of them actually don’t look too bad....I mostly question the reliability, but I guess considering some of them are being sold in Oz, they have to meet some basic level of safety and reliability...

There was no case for me to use it either! I just chose to use it for fun and because I was interested in it! :)

I have a high-end Windows desktop that has gone through many iterations that used to be my only computer - I use it for everyday stuff, gaming and video editing. In university I got into tinkering around with Linux on it in Virtual Machines around 2008 and then eventually bought an MSI Wind U100 netbook with WinXP to take to classes with me for typing up notes and whatnot, but still predominantly used my desktop when I got back to my dorm room.

After I graduated in 2013, I felt comfortable enough with Linux and had played with it enough that I finally decided “What the hell....I’ll try using it on my netbook.” Plus, as I’d since graduated and now didn’t really use my netbook unless I was out and about, it didn’t seem to be a huge deal as it was my secondary computer, so I stuck Linux Mint 14 on it full-time. I got used to it, found I really had no problems/issues with it as an everyday OS and have used it on every laptop I’ve had since (which is like 5 laptops now, as I do computer repair on the side and upgrade my own laptop every so often by fixing broken ones I am given).

I still use my Win10 desktop all the time, but for most everyday stuff, I find I use my laptop the most now. It’s a 14" HP Pavilion Touchsmart 14 laptop at the moment running Linux Mint 19.3 MATE. The only real issue with it has been the touchscreen didn’t work out-of-the-box with Mint and I never bothered to get it working as I have no need for a touchscreen on a laptop anyway. :)

I run Mint on my old Core 2 Duo Media Center PC as well (which used to be my main desktop PC before my current one) that is hooked up to the big TV in our rec room. :)

And here I read it as F50...

Instrument cluster is a little different, however. The FSO looks more like a Mondial:

The two main draws for Linux are 1) it’s free and 2) it’s customizable but neither of those things are issues for me with Windows. I have unlimited Win10 installations thanks to having a key, and I’ve yet to find anything in windows that can’t be tweaked to my liking. So, for me at least, having to get accustomed to a new file system and interface isn’t worth not having to deal with these issues that were never issues for me in the first place.

I’m not as big on stanced cars, but I REALLY like that BBS-wheeled Polonez too....love the color, more cars need bright colors!

I also REALLY love that Polonez Kombi (the wagon) as well! They are very rare, apparently, and only came out after FSO linked up with Daewoo. Fun-fact, there were also very rare aftermarket ‘estate’ conversions available that used same body as the hatchbacks! All they did was make a new ‘hatch’ lid that is taller and longer. :P

Normal hatch:

Aftermarket Estate conversion:

FSO, themselves, did do a sortof tall-roofed ‘estate’ version of the Caro pre-Daewoo though....it was called the Caro Cargo and civilian versions are super rare. Most of them were used as ambulances:

So do I! :D

The later cluster on the pre-Daewoo Polonez Caro wasn’t as nice, nor were the later post-Daewoo ones...

Interestingly, the Polonez dash and gauge cluster made a cameo appearance in the game Observer, albeit in a more cyberpunk “futuristic” guise.

I like fun, interesting gauges.  I want to re-do the dash in the 240 and make it a little more interesting, but still keep that 70's/80's vibe.

There was also a “povvo spec” version of that gauge cluster meant for the most basic “economic crisis” Polonez spec. It looks pretty awful. :P

The filesystem in terms of everyday use really isn’t that much different than Windows. Drives are identified a bit differently though:

Say, ‘C:’ is your Windows partition on a drive - on Linux that partition would be sda1 with the 1 being the partition and ‘sda’ being the drive. If you had two hard drives (...or optical drive, or any internally-mounted drive, or USB sticks/external hard drives, etc), the other hard drive would be /sdb...the first partition on that drive would be sdb1...if there were more than one partition, it would be sdb2, sdb3, etc.

You don’t really see this in everyday use though. Any removeable drives that get plugged in just appear mounted on the desktop automatically in Mint, in the same way that Windows pops up and asks what you want to do with it.

Your files/data/settings are usually stored to your user’s ‘Home’ folder in the same way that Windows has a ‘User’ folder that does the same thing. Programs in Windows are installed to the ‘Program Files’ folder by default, with the OS to the ‘Windows’ folder....on Linux all of that is stored in various folders in the root ‘/’ directory, but you almost NEVER have to interact with their actual files from that location:

A sound plan!

For what it’s worth, the wheels are the Propus-C BBS 2 piece wheels off of a C70, which is a FWD car like my 850. So my excuse was I wanted to run them on the 850 , even though I already had the 16" Zeus wheels I wanted, and knew these would eventually go on a 240. The 240 is RWD and will need spacers, or some other solution. If I ever have the $$$ I might get them made into a 3 piece wheel with custom offset.

I still like to fire up Test Drive Unlimited 2 on occasion just so I can tool around in the Lancia Delta Integrale. That instrument cluster does it for me (although I still think the primary instruments or at least the tach should be front and center a la Porsche) :

Oh, yes, I’ve always loved the cluster in the Integrale! Still can never get used to the tach needle sweep starting on the right and sweeping AROUND like that though. I prefer my tachs with the sweep starting at the lower-left...

I always worry with spacers that if you get one that is slightly off it would cause terrible wobble :(

It would also be expensive.  But if the car turns out anywhere close to how I want it, it may be worth it.
